Neurological study of 190 newborns with birth-weight less than 2 Kg. was done. These babies were between 29 weeks to 40 weeks gestation of which 29 were babies of less than 33 weeks gestation and 161 were between 34 weeks to 40 weeks gestational age.

Two cases of subcutaneous facial aspergillosis are being re­ported. As the overlying skin was healthy, the mode of localisa­tion of fungus remains unclear; because of peculiarity of clinical presentation the diagnosis was brought out only by histology. This mode of presentation has to be kept in mind in the predominantly agricultural communities in India.

In a boy of 17 years with disseminated tuberculosis, sudden onset of pulmonary edema following lumbar puncture is described. Possible pat ho-mechanisms have been discussed. The link bet­ween the lumbar puncture and the development of pulmonary edema is not casual.

This is a case report of acute herniation of heart following right pneumonectomy done for bronchiectasis. The clinical picture, diagnostic criteria and treatment o f this acute life threatening condition is described. Early diagnosis and prompt correction, as done in this case, yields rewarding result.

Gastrointestinal function of absorption has been studied in twenty biopsy proved cases of cirrhosis of the liver. The gastro­intestinal function was assessed by means of glucose and lactose tolerance tests and by fecal fat, d-Xylose and Co ⁵⁷ B ₁₂ excretion tests. Steatorrhoea and lactose intolerance are common in cir­rhotics. The etiopathogenesis of this malabsorption in cirrhotics is discussed and appears multifactorial in origin.

Epsilon-amino-caproic acid was used in 38 cases of menor­rhagia. In each patient details of bleeding were recorded for four consecutive menstrual periods. Drug was given during two alter­nate periods and the remaining two periods were considered as control periods. Number of days of bleeding and severity of bleed­ing were statistically significantly reduced by epsilon-amino-caproic acid. The drug was found to be safe and effective.

A prospective study of hundred patients of acute myocardial infarction admitted in the Intensive Cardiac Care Unit was carried out. The prognosis of each patient, immediate and delayed morta­lity, were assessed on admission by the coronary prognostic indices (C.P.I.) formulated by Peel, Norris and Chapman. The merits and drawbacks of each coronary prognostic index system are discussed. It is felt that the coronary prognostic index would be more accurate if a higher score is given to precursor, life threatening arrhy­thmias, and conduction defects, and the prognostic index is calculat­ed daily during the stay in the I.C.C.U.

Fifty one out-patient depressives were treated with Sintamil for a 5 week trial period under double-blind conditions. Sintamil 75 mg/day was administered in a fixed dosage schedule either as a single daily dose (SDS) or in 3 divided doses (DDS). There were no significant differences between the two treatment modali­ties in so far as efficacy was concerned. The SDS regimen of drug administration was associated with a lesser incidence of side effects.

Adrenocortical functions in terms of urinary 17-ketosteroids (17-KS), 17-ketogenic steroids (17-KGS); 17-hydroxycortico­ steroids (17-OHCS) and aldosterone levels have been evaluated in 25 renal hypertensive patients in the present study. Urinary 17-­KS, 17-KGS and 17-OHCS were within normal limits; however, aldosterone was elevated markedly in all the patients of renal hypertension. Thus, it appears that there exist a relation between this salt retaining steroid and renal hypertension.

A preliminary study of Picrorrhiza Kurroa root in Bronchial asthma in 10 patients is reported. There was evidence of short term benefit in some 6 subjects. In 4 there were significant side effects.
