With reference to Erkan et al's paper, the authors found that "low HDL-C levels may be associated with a moderate to high risk Duke Treadmill score in men, but not in women." [1] The methodology used by the authors for HDL estimation is not clear. Also, the difference in smoking between males and females could account for the sex difference. Finally, an adjustment for age, (a major confounder) would make the Duke Treadmill score [2] more appropriate and reliable.
